What is DEI+?

The DEI+ supports pilot and demonstration projects that reduce CO2 emissions with a grant of up to €30 million per project. This scheme covers up to 50% of your investment costs, significantly reducing the financial risk of innovation. Be quick, because the €350 million budget is distributed on a first-come, first-served basis.

Are you an entrepreneur and are you working on an innovation that contributes to CO2 reduction or the energy transition? Then the DEI+ grant 2026 (Demonstration of Energy and Climate Innovation) may be the opportunity to finance your project. With a budget of €350 million and a new opening from January 2026, this scheme offers serious opportunities for pilot and demonstration projects.

In this article, you can read all about the conditions, the budget, and how to successfully submit an application.

What is the DEI+ Grant?

The RVO's DEI+ scheme is intended for projects that need to take that last step to market. This is not about fundamental research (R&D), but about the demonstrating innovative techniques in a practical environment.

The main goal is effective CO2 reduction in the Netherlands.

Pilot vs. Demonstration

Within the DEI+, a distinction is made between two types of projects:

  1. Pilot projects: You test a new technology in a test setup (real-life conditions). The focus is on validating the operation.
  2. Demonstration projects: You invest in a production installation that is actually put into use. You show that the technology works and can be profitable.

Opening and Deadlines 2026

The RVO has officially announced the dates for 2026. Note these dates in your agenda, because the scheme often works on the basis of “First come, first served”.

  • Open: January 27, 2026
  • Closes: July 30, 2026

Note: There is still no budget for the Circular Economy theme in this first round. A possible opening for this will follow in the spring (April/May).

Budget and Themes 2026

The total budget for 2026 is set at €350 million. This is earmarked for specific themes:

  • Gasification of residual flows: €150 million
  • Energy and climate innovations: €134 million
  • Hydrogen & Green Chemistry: €38 million
  • Biobased Circular: €22 million
  • Natural gas-free built environment: €6 million

How much subsidy can you get?

The subsidy amounts are substantial, which makes this scheme attractive for industrial projects:

  • Maximum grant per project: Up to €30 million (depending on the theme) but smaller projects are also eligible.
  • Subsidy rate:
    • Demonstration: Up to 50% of the investment costs (depending on company size).
    • Pilot: usually 25% for large companies, increasing for SMEs.

The DEI+ Requests: What to look out for

Because applications are processed in the order they are received, speed is required but quality comes first. An incomplete application will be rejected or placed at the back of the row.

Success Checklist:

  1. Innovative character: Is your technology really new in the Netherlands?
  2. Collaboration: You can apply alone or in a consortium.
  3. Financing: You must prove that you can finance the personal contribution (the “rest” of the investment).

Conclusion

The DEI+ 2026 is an essential subsidy for the Dutch energy transition. With €350 million available, there are opportunities for leaders in industry, hydrogen and biobased materials.
